Abir Hossain
Abir Hossain was born into a musical family of Burdwan, West Bengal.
His father was his first mentor in music. He later came under the
tutelage of the sarod maestro Buddhadev Das Gupta and as a scholar
of ITC-SRA, he continues to receive his talim from the maestro
today. Abir has been the recipient of many laurels: he stood second
in the Talent Search Contest conducted by the Ravi Kichlu Foundation
in 1995, won the National Scholarship of Government of India in 1997
and has also won the gold medal at the ‘Sangeet Prabhakar’
examination. |

Adarsh Saxena
Adarsh began learning music at the age of six from Shri Mahesh
Chandra Sharma. He has since graduated with music and has gone on to
win national level competitions, a Ministry of Human Resource
Development scholarship and awards. He has performed for
organizations like SPICMACAY, Sankalp, Kalabati Sangam Kala group,
and others in different parts of India. He has also performed for
All India Radio. From October 2005 he has become an ITC-SRA scholar
under the tutelage of Arun Bhaduri. |

Aditya Sharma
Born in April 1986, Aditya Sharma was initiated into vocal music
when he was 4 years old by his father Dr. Arvind Sharma. A Sangeet
Visharad, he won the Harvallabh Sangeet Pratiyogita (Juniors vocal)
in 1999. He also won the All India Inter Varsity National Youth
Festival (2005) and the All India Radio Competition (2005) and was
subsequently graded as an artist. In June 2007 he has joined the ITC
Sangeet Research Academy as a scholar under Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar. |

Arshad Ali
A child prodigy, Arshad joined ITC-SRA in 1988, at the age of four.
He has been training under Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan of the Kirana
gharana since 1990. Winner of the Jadu Bhatta Puraskar in 2002,
Arshad has performed in many prestigious festivals in India and
abroad. A solo album of his, Murchhana was released in Bangladesh in
2002, while Sparkling Kirana is his most recent release from
Saregama India Ltd. |

Joyeeta Sanyal
As a child, Joyeeta Sanyal was initiated into the art of sitar
playing by Deepak Choudhury and later learnt from Kushal Das. She
has also imbibed the art of the gayakee ang from Kumar Roy. A
recipient of the national scholarship from Central Cultural Resource
and Training Centre, New Delhi, she has had several performances to
her credit on the concert stage and on television. From December
2005 she has become a disciple of ITC SRA Guru Manilal Nag. |

Manali Bose
Manali Bose received preliminary training from her parents and then
from Smt Debjani Basu, a disciple of late Pandit A. Kanan. An
English (Honours) graduate of the University of Calcutta, in 1999
she received a scholarship in khayal from Anun Lund Rej Fund (ALR
Fund), Norway. In 1995 she stood first in bhajan in the West Bengal
State Music Academy competition and has performed in the Children’s
Section and Special Bengali Service of All India Radio. She joined
the Academy as a general class student in 1996 and since June 2006
she has become a scholar, being trained by Pandit Arun Bhaduri. She
received the ‘Sangeet Piyasi Scholarship’ in khayal in the year
2000-01. Manali has recently stood first in the Khayal category of
the All India Radio Music Competition, 2007. |

Pinaki Bose
Pinaki had his initial training from his mother, Bula Bose. Following the basics, Pinaki received talim from the veteran guru of the Academy, Biresh Roy. At first a General Class student with ITC-SRA, as a scholar, Pinaki continued his training under Biresh Roy.Pinaki received the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India in 2004. |

Samarth Nagarkar
Samarth Nagarkar of Bangalore started learning Hindustani vocal
music very early in life from Aditi Upadhya. He later shifted to
Mumbai to receive further training from stalwarts like Dinkar
Kaikini, Shashikala Kaikini, SCR Bhatt and Balasaheb Poochwale. He
has given several performances and has won awards, scholarships and
accolades. He also stood first in the All India Radio Music
Competition. He joined the Academy as a scholar under the able
guidance of Ulhas Kashalkar in July 2003. |

Sameehan U Kashalkar
Sameehan U Kashalkar is the son and disciple of renowned vocalist,
Ulhas Kashalkar. Born in a family steeped in melody and music,
Sameehan is receiving authentic ‘talim’ from his celebrated father.
Presently, he is an “A” grade scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research
Academy, Kolkata. He is also undergoing Thumri-Dadra training from
the prima donna of Benaras tradition Vidushi Girija Devi.
Sameehan's debut performance at Aundh Mahotsav (near Pune) at the
age of 13, where he was accompanied on the tabla by Pt Suresh
Talwalkar, won him many accolades. He has also performed at the
prestigious National Gallery of Australia in the National
Multicultural Festival held at Canberra along with his father. |

Sandip Bhattacharjee
Currently a scholar of the Academy under Mashkoor Ali Khan, Sandip
Bhattacharjee began his musical training at the age of four.
Sandip's musical milestones include standing second in the All India
Radio Music Competition (1999) in khayal, topping the West Bengal
State Music Competition in bhajan and receiving the National Talent
Search Scholarship in 2001. In 2005, he was conferred the title 'Surmani'
by the Sur Singar Samsad. An A graded artiste of AIR, Sandip also
has several concerts to his credit. |

Shatavisha Mukherjee
Little Shatavisha Mukherjee, born on 20th April, 1993, learnt the first notes of Indian
classical music under Pandit A Kanan. Associated with the ITC SRA from the age of four;
the ideal age to begin a musical journey. Shatavisha, who is our the Academy's youngest
scholar today, is presently training under Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar. She has a great love
for literature and mathematics, the two subjects which will give her a clear insight into
the art and science of traditional Indian music. |

Smarajit Kumar
Sen
Born in December 1983, Smarajit Kumar Sen began his sitar lessons
under Prof. Sukumar Chanda when he was 11. Later he received
guidance from Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta. A first class masters in
music from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, he is completing
his Ph. D. in “Evolution and Evaluation of Taans”.
In 2001, he won the first prize in the Inter-University Youth
Festival at Vinoba Bhave University. He received the National
Scholarship in 2004. In 2007, he topped the Paschim Banga Rajya
Sangeet Academy music competition. Since May 2007 he has been a
sitar scholar at the Academy, training under Pandit Buddhadev
Dasgupta. |

Sourav Ganguly
Born in July 1990, Sourav Ganguly hails from a family of musicians,
his father being a percussionist. His preliminary training in sitar
began in 1997 under Taposh Chattopadhyay. A general class student at
the Academy from May 2005, training under Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta,
he became a scholar here in June 2007and is being trained by Pandit
Manilal Nag |

Subhankar
Hazarika
Born in 1987 in Assam, Subhankar Hazarika started his training at
very tender age under his father Hem Hazarika, senior disciple of
Pandit Manilal Nag as well as his mother, Swapna Hazarika. From
1998, Subhankar has been a student of Pandit Manilal Nag at Kolkata.
He was a general class student of ITC-SRA from November 2005 and has
become a scholar under Pandit Manilal Nag from 1st June 2007. |

Sucheta Ganguly
Sucheta Ganguly was initiated into the world of Hindustani Classical Music by her father
when she was just seven. She joined ITC-SRA in the year 2000 as a General Class student
and was thereafter upgraded as a full-time residential Scholar under the tutelage of Arun
Bhaduri. She has won the first prize at a State level Music Competition in 1994 and is a
regular performer on All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan. |

Supratik Sengupta
Supratik Sengupta received his early training from his vocalist father and subsequently
began formal training on the sitar. After receiving the National Talent Search Scholarship
in 1994, he briefly trained under Sangeetacharya Ajoy Sinha Roy and later was a student of
Pradeep Chakrabarty, a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. Supratik was selected for the
National Scholarship by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India and has
stood first in various music competitions, including that of the Ravi Kichlu Foundation.
He has been with ITC-SRA from 2002 and is currently a scholar here under the sarod
maestro, Buddhadev Das Gupta. |
